4D3N Mount Kinabalu Summit with Via Ferrata

At 4,095 metres, Mount Kinabalu in Sabah is the highest mountain in the countries which neighbour Singapore. The journey to Kinabalu Park ( 1,560-m ) is a road journey of 2 hours along a good winding mountain road 90 km from Kota Kinabalu.

Each year tens of thousands of visitors make the climb along the scenic Kinabalu Mountain Trail. There are very few mountains in the world that are as tall as Mount Kinabalu and yet so hiker friendly and natural & can be climbed in 2 days.  It is this which makes Mount Kinabalua such a popular mountain - during holiday seasons there may be up to 200 people climbing the mountain per day.

In general, the Mount Kinabalu trek is non-technical, requiring no special ability nor technical climbing equipment, and anyone in good health and fitness can reach the summit with proper gear & adequate training.  Nevertheless this is an intense trek that involves a relentless straight-up ascent from an altitude of about 1900m to 4100m within a 12-hour period with not much recovery time in between.  Hence this is not a mountain trek for the ill-prepared.

Situated on Mt Kinabalu is the world's highest Via Ferrata that's verified by the Guiness Book of World Records.  Via Ferrata is a mountain route made up of a permanent network of iron rungs, rails and cables. With such setup, scenic parts of the mountain which are typically available only to rock climbers and mountaineers are now accessible to normal hikers.

The Via Ferrata routes at Mt Kinabalu are designed with the beginner and intermediate climbers in mind. The Walk-The-Torq (WTT) is ideal for the adventurous novice hikers while the more challenging Low's Peak Circuit (LPC) can be tackled by more experienced intermediate hikers who relish a more challenging experience.

Your safety is of great importance to us. For our climbs, you can expect handpicked mountain guides that ensure adequate supervision & safety. Fitness
Expect a hard trek over a 2-day period. For the average person who does not exercise on a regular basis, at least 2-3 months of pre-trip physical conditioning of at least 2-3 times per week is recommended. To make sure that you reach the summit in good form, we strongly encourage that all participants tune up their fitness for the trip.  Pre-trip trek training advice is included as part of our package. High trek fitness is guaranteed to enhance your actual trek experience.

Trek Gear & Apparel
As this is a high mountain trek, all hikers need to be well prepared to deal with the expected as well as the unexpected weather the mountain may present ... in Mount Kinabalu's case, the cold and possible strong wind & rain take the cake.  Waterproofs are a must and hikers need to know the layering system to stay dry, warm & comfortable during their trek, especially in cold & rainy condition when high up at the summit plateau area. A comprehensive gear & clothing list with proper layering advice are provided and our clients enjoy preferential 30% discount for purchases at Adventure Gear Post.

The Altitude
The trek on Mount Kinabalu is high enough to bring about acute mountain sickness (AMS) and it is not uncommon for hikers to experience AMS upon arrival at the rest huts.  Advice will be given on how to minimise and treat AMS.
