17D Chile-Argentina Crossing Cycling Tour
Cochamó Valley is a U-shaped valley located in the Andes, in North Patagonia & the Los Lagos Region of Chile. The valley, with its sheer 1000m granite walls & domes, dazzling waterfalls, and a crystalline, trout-filled river, has a striking similarity to Yosemite Valley. It is also home to the ancient Alerces trees, which can grow up to 50m tall & has a life span of 3000 years. Famously known as "The Chilean Yosemite" and with no roads but only trails penetrating the valley, it has become a trekker's paradise, climber's mecca and nature lover's haven. Beyond being a world class rock climbing destination, it is popular for trekking, horse riding, kayaking, fly fishing and other outdoor activities.
There are several ways to do a Chile-Argentina crossing in Northern Patagonia. We have chosen this cycle crossing through Cochamó Valley because we think it is a good representative of Northern Patagonia. Ride through the stunningly beautiful wilderness of the valley along the old smugglers routes, criss-crossing rivers, brilliant blue lakes, ancient forests, and towering granite walls into Argentina's little Switzerland, and Lake District.
