10 Days Samtengang Trek
coinciding with Bhutan National Day Celebrations

Samtengang trek is one of the easier lower altitude treks in Bhutan. It is a three to four days trek and with altitudes from 1,500 to 2,650 metres. With the mild weather, the trek is possible throughout the whole winter.

Samtengang trekking is also a cultural trek and offers its own unique charms and experiences; passing through the villages of Punakha & Wangdi region, rhododendron and oak trees forest, paddy fields, monasteries and lakes. In the month of March, we can see the rhododendron flowers in full bloom and sometimes the orchids also. This is a trek rich in culture, nature and scenic beauty.

National Day in Bhutan is celebrated yearly on December 17 at Changlimethang National Stadium. This date commemorates the 1907 coronation of the first king of Bhutan at Punakha Dzong and ushered in a period of peace, unity and prosperity to Bhutan that had previously experienced many years of civil war.  During this period, Buddhist religious ceremonies are held all over the country to ask for protection and guidance with flower offerings and candles.

This 10-day itinerary will not only allow take you through a cultural and historical discovery in the mystical kingdom of Bhutan but also the chance to participate in the Bhutan National Day celebrations.

Day 1 Singapore - Kolkata - Paro.
Day 2 Paro sightseeing. Day excursion to Taktshang Monastery and Drugyel Dzong. Catch the spectacular view of Mt. Jumolhari - one of the highest peaks in Bhutan.
Day 3 Drive to Thimphu, then Punakha, the starting point of the trek and spend the rest of the day exploring the valley.
Day 4 - 7 Spend the next 4 days trekking through the beautiful Punakha valley and Wangdi area. The trail takes you through thick alpine forests and dwarf rhododendron trees. You may seek yaks and yak herders around your camp sites which are located near alpine lakes. The trail follows the ridge and on a clear day the view of the mountains and valley are beautiful. If the weather permits, you will have a spectacular view of Mount "Gangkhar Punsum", the highest mountain in Bhutan as well other Himalayan mountain ranges from Dochula pass.
Day 8 Wangdi - Thimphu
Day 9 Spend the day exploring Thimphu. Transfer to Paro for overnight.
Day 10 Paro - Kolkata - Singapore
