9 Days Gorilla and Kenya Safari

One of the rarest animal in the world, and a close relative to humans, the Mountain Gorillas hold a mystical image in the minds of man. Thanks to the movie, Gorillas in the Mist, which was set in the Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda, and shot on location there, we have more opportunities to get to know these amazing creatures.

The Virungas are the last outpost of the endangered mountain gorilla, and their lush slopes provide an appropriately dramatic natural setting for what is perhaps the most poignant and thrilling wildlife experience to be had in Africa. Nothing can prepare the visitor for the impact of encountering a troop of gorillas munching bamboo in their unfenced natural habitat. The sheer physical presence of an adult male silverback - three times as bulky as the average man, yet remarkably peaceable and tolerant of human visitors - defies verbal description. Nor are there words to convey the thrill of recognition attached to staring deep into the liquid brown eyes of these gentle giants, who share some 97% of their genes with humans.

The Masai Mara National Reserve is the most popular of Kenya's parks. Almost every species of animal you can think of in relation to East Africa live on the well-watered plains in this remote part of the country. A safari trip to Kenya is not complete without visiting the Rift Valley. The spectacularly beautiful soda lake of the Rift Valley - Lake Nakuru - is a great place for bird watching as the waterways teem with flamingos and thousands other winged species.

A 9 day wildlife experience, visiting the mountain gorillas of Rwanda, the Masai Mara ecosystems and a homestay with a Masai family.

Some of the best safari experience on earth. Endless opportunities to practise your photography skills. Just remember to bring plenty of memory storage and a good camera.

Gorillas are highly susceptible to human diseases. Even our common flu and cold can cause much health damage to them. Therefore, visitors are asked to keep a clear distance and if feeling sick, to not visit the gorillas. The tracking may take up to 4 hours of walking through thick forest vegetation with no clear trails. While it is enchanting to weave through the over-hanging vines and spot some monkeys and birds, the walking may be strenuous, since it is at a high altitude. You should pace yourself, walk slowly and drink plenty of water. No one should feel deterred from making this trip.
